The New KJP

With the launch of my new website and visual brand, I wanted to add a little bit of an explanation. A lot of the time you see new logos and designs, but never really know why. Well, I am excited to explain. 🙂

When I started my photography business back in 2010/2011, I had no idea what I wanted “Karyn Johnson Photography” to be. It was just this dream I had of taking pictures of people and things. Over the years, I’ve honed in on my skill. I know I love doing weddings, but am not the greatest with families. I know that my posing is much better when I have people interacting versus just an individual. And so as I’ve learned these things, I’ve narrowed my market and style.

Back in 2014/2015 when I created my initial website, I had to pick brand words: words that described my work and assisted me in creating my photos. Lovely which means “exquisitely beautiful”.  Natural which I see as candid with a little bit of polish and inviting because I want my photos to encourage and evoke emotion and memories. And even now, 3 years later, these words still ring true for my work.

When Elise and I were beginning the process of creating a new website and visual brand in addition to brand words, she asked me about my favorite clients. Who resonated the most with me? What did they do for fun? What did they like? Who are they are as a couple? It was crazy to sit and think about my brand in terms of my clients, but I love it because my amazing clients are the reason I do what I do!

So, Elise and I combined the qualities of my amazing clients with the words I use to create beautiful imagery and this is what we ended up with!  I am such a fan of elegant, romantic calligraphy and loved the thought of incorporating it into my site. But it just wasn’t the right fit for my brand. I’ve neglected the quirky side of my brand since the beginning and I didn’t want to do that any longer. All of my couples have a quirky side whether that be med students having TMI conversations, couples who video game together, or those who live all-natural, organic lifestyles. Everyone has a side to them that gives them that quirk and that’s what I love about my job and my couples!

Again, Mark Branding Boutique did an amazing job nailing the design of my brand and took this picture! Sooo perfect!

I want to finish my “launch week” with a special post tomorrow titled “Why I love photography” and a special deal for any 2017 couples searching for a wedding photographer. Yay! I’m so excited for what is coming!
