Top 5: Wedding Cake Flavors

For anyone who knows me, one of the first things they learn about me is that I have a major love affair with food, but more specifically sweets. I love my sweets: cookies, brownies, pies, cakes… you name it! And there is nothing better than nearing the end of a wedding reception and getting a leftover piece of wedding cake! It’s like the perfect pick-me-up after a long 7 hours to push me through that last 60 minutes!

Over all my years as a wedding photographer, I’ve tried many, many cakes, cupcakes, pies, donuts, cookies, dessert bars… all the sweets. And while I love them all, I do have my own personal favorite cake flavors.

1. French vanilla cake with chocolate chips and white frosting

So I know this one is oddly specific… French vanilla and chocolate chips? But this was our wedding cake and it was DELICIOUS. Even though I’m not a coffee drinker, I love French vanilla and it is amazing as cake, but it’s even better with mini chocolate chips throughout giving each bite a touch of crunch, sweetness, and pleasant surprise.

2. Chocolate cake with white frosting

My go-to simple favorite cake combo. This is always my first pick when out.

3. Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting

I love chocolate and I love peanut butter. A cake combo of these two is perfection in my book.

4. Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting

You cannot go wrong with a classic red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting. It’s always a crowd pleaser and gets another nod of approval from me. 😉

5. Cake with fruit!

Sometimes good ol’e cake with some fruit on top is just divine. A sweet treat that’s also refreshing and an overall great pick for the majority of guests. Yummm.

And while these are my top 5, I’m a fan of pretty much all cakes because not only do they taste yummy, but they are pretty and are a great addition to your images!

Happy cake eating, friends!
