Last fall, I had the opportunity to photograph Tom and Bethany’s wedding at Morais Vineyards in Warrenton, Virginia. Driving onto the property, it’s easy to wonder whether you’ve arrived in Virginia or somewhere in the European countryside. With its Portuguese-inspired architecture, the vineyard has an old-world character that made a beautiful setting for their November celebration.
It was clear from the beginning that Tom and Bethany cared deeply about their guests’ experience. With the help of Virginia Swope of V&V Weddings, they created a celebration that was both beautiful and easy to enjoy.
Sage green and blush complemented the November foliage, while watercolor greenery carried through the invitations and reception details. The result was classic and lovely, with a natural connection to the old-world character of the property.
Guests arrived from their hotel by shuttle and were welcomed with champagne before the ceremony. Cocktail hour included lawn games and a glass-engraving experience, while the reception offered a dessert bar, late-night pretzels, and a cigar lounge where guests could settle in and visit.
It was an absolute joy to photograph this wedding, not only because of the beautiful setting and thoughtful design, but because of the way Tom and Bethany loved their people. That was especially evident in the moments they shared with their families.
Bethany walked down the aisle with both of her parents, and their expressions moved from joyful tears to laughter throughout the ceremony. When the officiant asked her parents for their advice, her mom’s response of “Don’t be an a-hole” brought the whole room to laughter.
Tom and Bethany also recreated a photograph from his parents’ wedding day, right down to the groom lying across the bride’s train. And later, Bethany shared dances with both her dad and her mom, giving everyone another reason to reach for a tissue.
I could continue to gush about this incredible fall Virginia vineyard wedding, but I’ll let the photos now bring you into the story.
